Navigating School Choice in Texas

On September 1, 2025, Texas Senate Bill 2 went into effect, creating one of the largest school choice programs in the country, the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program.

All legal residents of Texas are eligible to receive TEFA funding to support their child’s tuition and fees. Families must provide documentation to prove citizenship or legal residency and to prove Texas residency. TEFA funding is expected to be between $10,000 and $12,500 annually per student. The TEFA online portal will open for 2026-2027 applications opens on February 4, 2026.

We encourage all families to complete a Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) application, and completion of this application is required for families seeking financial assistance. This application needs to be completed within the window established by the Comptroller of Texas and families need to provide Calvary with proof of application completion if they apply for financial assistance.
